What is Adaptive Horseback Riding?

Adaptive horseback riding incorporates each clients strengths and goals for riding into each lesson. These classes do not need a prescription from a physician and are a great way to help learn and build horsemanship and horseback riding skills as well as socialize in an environment where people have a love for animals in common.

  • In 2018 there were 20,000 foals registered under the jockey club of North America.
  • 75% of retirees are sold as horseback riding companions
  • 11% are retired to pasture
  • 13.5% are re-homed by non-profit organizations (OTTBsurvey Report-source)

Adaptive horseback riding has the ability to teach invaluable lessons, both physical and mental. Horseback riding is one of the only sports that requires the use of every muscle group. While on a horse, riders gain physical strength in coordination, balance, dexterity, motor skills, impulse control, and more. Mentally our riders gain self-esteem, emotional awareness, social skills, focus, confidence, trust, empathy, problem-solving skills, and more. The Human-Animal Bond between our ex-racehorses and riders can actually help our riders effectively reduce their blood pressure, stress, anxiety, and reduce the production of the main stress hormone cortisol.
